Оргкомитет премии «Оскар» объявил о том, что для отбора были поданы заявки из 87 стран. Таким образом, первый список состоит из 87 фильмов.

Нашу страну представляет военная драма «Собибор» – режиссёрский дебют Константина Хабенского. Также в лонг-лист вошли фильмы-участники престижных фестивалей: лента мексиканца Альфонсо Куарона «Рома», победившая на Каннском кинофестивале этого года; картина «Холодная война», которую снял поляк Павел Павликовский, удостоенный приза как лучший режиссёр Каннского кинофестиваля.

Кто именно войдёт в список номинантов оргкомитет объявит 22 января 2019 года. Сама церемония вручения премии «Оскар» пройдёт 24 февраля.
